Privacy policy
For fish-wiki.com and the Fish Wiki app for Android. Last updated 5 November 2026.
Fish Wiki is run by Nightingale Pte. Ltd., 8 Marina View, Asia Square Tower 1, Singapore 018960. You can read every species page, browse listings and shops, and identify fish by their looks without an account, and we collect nothing that identifies you when you do.
What we keep, and why
- Your account, if you sign in with Google: your name, email address and a Google account number, so you can sign in and keep your things. We use them for nothing else and send no marketing email.
- My fish: the species you save, kept with your account.
- Fish Hunt finds: the photo, place and notes you post, and the hunter name shown with them. Finds are public on the map once approved; your hunter name is made up and never shows your real name or email.
- Listings and shop details you add, and shop claims, which are reviewed before they appear.
- Daily allowances: how many photo identifications and questions your account used today, to keep each plan's limit.
- Premium (bought on the website only): whether your account has Premium, Stripe's customer number for you and the date and amount of each payment. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
Photos you identify
A photo you send to Photo ID is shrunk on your phone, sent to our server and passed to Anthropic's Claude to name the fish. We do not keep it after the answer comes back, and Anthropic does not use it to train its models.
Your location
Fish near me and the shops map ask your phone for your location only when you tap them. It is used to centre the map and, rounded to about 100 metres, to look up nearby shops and fish. We do not store it. Fish Hunt finds keep the place you choose for the find.
Who else handles it
- Google Firebase (sign-in, database, file storage and hosting) and Google Maps (maps and nearby shops).
- Anthropic (Photo ID and Ask questions), Stripe (Premium payments on the website), OpenStreetMap (shop map data).
- Wikimedia Commons and Sketchfab serve the photos and 3D models shown on species pages.
We do not sell your data, show ads or use advertising or tracking cookies. Data travels encrypted (HTTPS).
Deleting your account
Sign in, open Your account and choose Close my account. This deletes your sign-in, My fish, your hunter profile and your usage records straight away. Your Fish Hunt finds stay on the map without your hunter name; payment records are kept as long as the law requires for accounts. If you cannot sign in, email info@nightingaley.com from the address on the account and we will delete it within 30 days.
Children
Fish Wiki is for a general audience and is not aimed at children under 13.
