A small, bright yellow to orange damselfish with a thin electric blue line running from the snout along the top of the back. It lives on deeper outer reef slopes and is kept for its strong colour and modest size, which suits reef aquariums.

Breeding

Pairs lay sticky eggs on a cleaned hard surface and the male guards them until hatching. Spawning can happen in captivity but rearing the tiny pelagic larvae is difficult.

Good to know

Less aggressive than many damsels but still territorial, so avoid keeping several in small tanks. It comes from deep water and is uncommon in the trade, so specimens can be pricey and need careful acclimation.
