A small, hardy damselfish that lives on shallow reef flats. Adults are olive brown with pale or yellowish fins. Juveniles have a black eye-spot near the back of the dorsal fin, which fades with age. Keepers like it because it tolerates a wide range of conditions and grazes on algae.

Breeding

Pairs lay eggs on hard surfaces and the male guards them until they hatch. Spawning happens fairly readily in aquariums, but rearing the tiny pelagic larvae is hard.

Good to know

Like many damsels it becomes territorial as it ages, so house it with robust tankmates and add it last. It can be confused with other drab brown Chrysiptera species.
