Breeding
A cave or crevice spawner that forms pairs; the female guards eggs in a hidden spot among rocks while the male defends the area. It is not seen often in the trade, but established pairs breed fairly readily in hard, alkaline water.
Good to know
Territorial when spawning, so provide plenty of rockwork and avoid keeping it with very small or timid fish. Needs hard, alkaline water and stable conditions like other Tanganyikan cichlids.
