A small wood-eating suckermouth catfish with bold dark and light bands across a brownish body, often tinged orange on the fins. Its modest size and striking pattern make it a popular choice for community tanks with driftwood.

Breeding
A cave spawner in which the male guards the eggs and fry inside a wooden or clay cave. It has been bred in captivity but success is irregular.
Good to know
Needs driftwood in the tank to rasp for fibre and produces a lot of waste, so good filtration is essential. Several banded Panaqolus species look very similar and are often mixed up in shops.
