Breeding
Eggs are scattered among fine-leaved plants after the male cups his anal fin around the female's vent to fertilise them. Captive breeding is uncommon in home tanks, though it is done commercially, often helped by cooler water changes that imitate the rainy season.
Good to know
It will eat any fish small enough to fit in its mouth, and it is an expert escape artist, so a tight-fitting lid with no gaps is essential. It needs access to the surface to gulp air.
