Breeding
It is a protogynous hermaphrodite, so females can change into males, and pairs spawn in open water releasing floating eggs. Captive breeding is very rare and not practical in home aquariums.
Good to know
It eats small shrimps, crabs, snails and worms, so it is not safe with ornamental invertebrates, and it can bully small or timid fish as it grows. Young fish may act as cleaners, but adults need a large tank with plenty of swimming space.
