A slim fang blenny from Fiji with a bluish grey body, dark stripes along the head and back and yellow fins and tail. It swims openly in the water column rather than perching, which makes it an active, colourful and hardy choice for reef tanks.

Breeding

Pairs lay eggs in a cave or empty shell, and the male guards them until hatching. Spawning happens in aquariums, but rearing the tiny planktonic larvae is difficult and needs live rotifers and copepods.

Good to know

Like other Meiacanthus it has venomous grooved fangs, so predators that try to eat it usually spit it out; handle with care. It can bother other open-water blennies or similar slender fish, and is generally reef safe.
