A fairly large, slim devario from fast hill streams in Laos and Vietnam, with a silvery body marked by short dark vertical bars along the flanks and an upturned mouth. It is rarely seen in the trade, so it appeals to keepers of unusual cyprinids who want an active, hardy shoaling fish for a long, well-oxygenated tank.

Breeding
It is an egg scatterer that gives no parental care, so adults will eat the eggs. Spawning is likely in a separate tank with fine-leaved plants or mesh over the base, but there are few reports of captive breeding.
Good to know
Very fast, active swimmer that needs a long tank with a tight lid and strong flow; may nip or outcompete slow, long-finned tankmates.
