A small, slender, eel-like loach with a fairly plain dark brown to greyish body, lacking the bold bands of the common kuhli. It is kept for its quiet, sociable behaviour and its habit of sifting through soft sand and leaf litter in planted tanks.

Breeding
Rarely bred in home aquariums and there are few detailed reports. Related Pangio scatter eggs among plants or roots, usually during group spawning after water changes, so success is largely down to chance.
Good to know
Use soft sand and cover every gap and filter intake, as these loaches squeeze into tiny openings. Sellers often confuse it with Pangio anguillaris and other plain-coloured Pangio species.
