This is a small, slim splash tetra relative from Brazilian streams with a warm brownish body marked by rows of dark spots and reddish tones in the fins. It suits quiet, planted blackwater style tanks and appeals to keepers who like less common South American characins.

Breeding
Like other Pyrrhulina it is thought to lay eggs on a leaf or flat surface, with the male guarding the clutch. Captive breeding is rarely reported, so it should be treated as a challenge.
Good to know
Kept fish are mostly wild caught and seldom seen in the trade, so identification can be unreliable; a tight lid is needed as these fish may jump.
