A slim, silvery rasbora with a dark lateral stripe running to the tail and a yellow to orange tinge on the caudal fin lobes. It is kept for its lively schooling behaviour and hardiness, making it a good choice for larger community tanks with open swimming space.

Breeding

An egg scatterer that spawns among plants and gives no parental care, and the adults will eat the eggs. It is rarely bred deliberately in home tanks, though conditioned groups may spawn in a separate tank with fine-leaved plants or a mesh base.

Good to know

It grows larger than most rasboras, around 10 cm or more, so needs a long tank and a tight lid as it can jump. It is easily confused with similar striped species such as Rasbora daniconius and Rasbora paviana.
