Betta antoni is a wild betta in the Betta akarensis group. It has a stocky reddish-brown body, and mature males show iridescent blue-green scales on the gill covers and in the fins. Specialist keepers like it because it is calm, rarely seen in the trade and does well in a dim, leaf-litter blackwater setup.

Breeding
It is a paternal mouthbrooder, so the male holds the eggs and fry in his mouth for about two weeks. Spawning is quite achievable in soft, acidic water if the tank is quiet and disturbances are kept to a minimum.
Good to know
Keep the tank covered because it can jump, and keep the water soft and acidic. It is easily confused with other akarensis-group bettas, so buy from sellers who list the collection locality.
