Breeding
Males build a small bubble nest under a leaf or inside a cave, and the pair spawn upside down beneath it, with the male guarding eggs and fry. Spawning is achievable in very soft, acidic water, but raising fry needs tiny live foods and stable conditions.
Good to know
Needs very soft, acidic, tannin-stained water and fails quickly in hard or alkaline conditions. It is listed as threatened because its peat swamp habitat is being lost, and wild-caught stock is easily confused with other licorice gouramis.
