A small, slim silvery rasbora with a bold black spot ringed in white on the dorsal fin and a greenish shine to the eye. It is hardy, peaceful and looks best in a large group in a planted, softly lit tank, which makes it a good choice for community and blackwater setups.

Breeding

It scatters its eggs among fine-leaved plants or moss and gives no parental care, often eating the eggs. Spawning is fairly easy in a separate soft, acidic tank with plenty of moss, with the adults taken out afterwards and the fry fed infusoria at first.

Good to know

Keep it apart from large or boisterous fish, which will bully or eat it. It is sometimes confused with the similar Brevibora cheeya, which has a less contrasting dorsal spot.
