A small armoured catfish with a pale greyish body covered in dark spots and blotches, usually with a darker patch under the dorsal fin. It comes from cooler subtropical streams, so it suits unheated or gently heated community tanks, and it is valued for its busy, sociable foraging on the bottom.

Breeding
It breeds in the typical corydoras T-position, with the female sticking eggs onto glass and plants, often after a cool water change. Spawning is fairly easy in captivity, and the eggs and fry can be raised in a separate tank on microworms and baby brine shrimp.
Good to know
Prefers cooler water than most tropical corydoras, so avoid long-term keeping above about 25°C. Keep it over sand or smooth gravel to protect its barbels, and it is easily confused with similar spotted species such as C. paleatus relatives.
