A small, slim danio with a silvery green body, short dark vertical bars at the front and a bright orange to red line along the flanks, with orange and black fin edges. It is lively, hardy and colourful, so it is popular for planted community tanks with cooler, well oxygenated water.

Breeding

An egg scatterer that spawns among fine plants or over gravel and gives no parental care, so adults will eat the eggs. Spawning is fairly easy in a separate tank with a mesh or marbles base, and the tiny fry need infusoria at first.

Good to know

Very active and best kept in a tightly covered tank with some water movement and good oxygen levels. Males can squabble mildly, so keep a proper group with more females than males.
