This is a slim, active devario with a silvery body marked by short blue-grey vertical bars at the front. Lines run along the rear half of the body, and the fins can show a yellowish tinge. It comes from cool, clear hill streams, and people keep it as a lively, hardy shoaling fish for well-oxygenated community tanks with some current.

Breeding
It scatters its eggs and gives no parental care, so the adults will eat eggs and fry. Spawning in a separate tank with fine-leaved plants or mesh over the base is fairly easy, and the fry need infusoria first, then brine shrimp nauplii.
Good to know
It is a fast, strong swimmer that needs a long tank with a tight lid, as it can jump. It prefers cooler water than most tropical fish and may chase slow, long-finned tankmates.
