This is one of the larger Rasbora species. It has a silvery body, a dark stripe along the rear half of the flank and yellowish to orange fins with dark tips on the tail. Keepers like it as a lively, hardy shoaling fish for big community tanks with plenty of open swimming space.

Breeding

It scatters its eggs among plants or over the substrate and gives no parental care, and the adults will eat the eggs. Captive spawning is not often reported, but it should be possible in a separate well-planted tank with soft, slightly acidic water.

Good to know

It grows much bigger than most rasboras, so it needs a long tank and a lid because it jumps. It is often mixed up with other large striped rasboras, such as Rasbora tornieri and Rasbora paviana.
