Breeding
It is a paternal mouthbrooder; the male carries the eggs for around two weeks before releasing free-swimming fry. Breeding is achievable for experienced keepers given soft, slightly acidic water, a quiet tank and good conditioning.
Good to know
It is an accomplished jumper, so a tight-fitting lid is essential. Wild-caught stock is often confused with Betta unimaculata and related species, so check the origin with the seller.
