A fairly large wild betta from the Betta unimaculata group, with a long, slim body in brownish tones, a reddish tail and blue-green sheen on the fins and gill covers. Enthusiasts keep it for its calm nature and as a less common wild species that does well in soft, tannin-stained water.

Breeding
It is a paternal mouthbrooder: after spawning, the male carries the eggs and fry in his mouth for around two weeks. Breeding in captivity is achievable for experienced keepers who provide soft, acidic water, plenty of cover and minimal disturbance.
Good to know
It can jump, so a tight-fitting lid is essential. Fish sold under this name are often confused with Betta unimaculata or related mouthbrooders, so buy from collectors who give locality data.
