A small, rarely seen cory with a pale body covered in fine dark spots and a dusky patch on the dorsal fin. It is kept by catfish enthusiasts for its lively shoaling behaviour and its status as an unusual species from eastern Brazil. Recent taxonomic work moved many corys into Brochis, so it may be labelled Brochis garbei.

Breeding

An egg scatterer that lays adhesive eggs on glass and plants in typical cory T-position fashion, often triggered by cool water changes. It has been bred in home aquariums but is not as prolific or regularly bred as common corys.

Good to know

Needs a fine sand substrate to protect its barbels and should not be kept with large or aggressive fish. Wild stock is uncommon and may be mislabelled, so check identification when buying.
