This small armoured catfish was described by Knaack in 2004 from Bolivia. It has the typical stocky Corydoras build, a dark brownish body with darker markings and a forked tail. Specialist catfish keepers seek it out because it is rarely seen in the trade, and it is peaceful and busy as it sifts through the substrate.

Breeding
It probably spawns like other Corydoras: the female carries eggs between her pelvic fins and sticks them to glass or plants, often after a cool water change. Captive breeding records for this species are scarce, so expect it to be harder to breed than common species.
Good to know
Published care data for this species are limited, so these figures are based on related Bolivian Corydoras. Imported fish are often wrongly labelled or mixed with similar dark species, so check identification carefully.
