A small armoured catfish with a pale body covered in dark spots and blotches, a dark band through the eye and a black-tipped dorsal fin. It is kept for its lively, social behaviour as it sifts the substrate in groups, and it suits calm community tanks with fine sand.

Breeding

Like other Corydoras it lays adhesive eggs on glass and plants after the typical T-position embrace, often triggered by a cool water change. It is bred only occasionally in captivity, and the fry need clean water and very fine foods.

Good to know

Mostly wild-caught, so imports may be delicate and need careful acclimatisation. It is easily confused with similar spotted species such as Corydoras ambiacus and C. reticulatus, and is sometimes sold under the wrong name.
