Breeding

This species builds bubble nests, often in hidden spots among leaves or plants. The male guards the eggs and fry. Breeding is achievable in soft, very acidic water with plenty of cover, but fry are tiny and need infusoria at first.

Good to know

It needs soft, acidic blackwater and does poorly in hard or alkaline water. It is threatened in the wild by peat swamp loss and is easily confused with other coccina-group bettas, so buy correctly labelled stock.
