Trichopodus poptae is a historical name generally treated as a synonym, and fish sold under it are usually the pearl gourami. Breeding
Males build a bubble nest among floating plants and guard the eggs and fry after spawning. Breeding is fairly easy in warm, soft, still water, though the tiny fry need infusoria at first.
Good to know
The name Trichopodus poptae is not widely recognised as a valid species, so check the identity of fish sold under it. Avoid keeping with fin nippers and keep a tight lid, as it breathes air at the surface.
